Hurricane-Rated Garage Doors in Arcadia
A wide door is often the weakest point in a storm. We help you choose a rated assembly for the opening and explain what approval and permit apply.

On most buildings the garage door is the widest opening, and in high winds it takes a heavy load across a large, flexible surface. If it fails, pressure builds inside the building and works against the roof. That is why a rating applies to the full assembly, panels or curtain, track, brackets, fasteners and anchors, all tested together.
The design pressure a door must meet depends on the building, its use and the location. Florida requires a product approval for replacement doors, and a permit in most places. We help you identify what is needed for your opening, then install the door exactly as it was approved.
Signs Your Door Is Probably Not Rated
No label or approval details
Rated doors usually have an approval label or paperwork. An older door with nothing of the kind is most likely not a rated assembly.
Thin panels and no reinforcement
Wide doors with light skins and no struts flex under pressure, and that flexing can pull the track and hinges away from the frame.
Anchors that were never upgraded
Even a strong door fails if it hangs on track brackets fixed with short screws into soft framing. The anchors are part of the rating.
How We Approach It
- 1
Measure and discuss
We measure the opening, discuss the pressure and use that apply, and choose a door whose approval fits the application.
- 2
Install the approved assembly
The door goes in with its specified track, fasteners and anchors, set to the manufacturer's instructions so the rating still holds.
- 3
Handle the paperwork
We walk you through the permit and product approval steps, so you are clear about the building department's requirements and the documents you may be asked for.
Wind-Rated Door Questions
- Can bracing make my existing door wind-rated?
- Added braces make some doors stiffer, yet a rating applies only to an assembly that was tested and approved as a whole. Where your door carries no approval, extra bracing may let it flex less in wind, yet it still will not become a rated door.
- Do rolling steel doors come wind-rated?
- Some do. Rated rolling steel doors use heavier curtains with guides and locking features designed to hold the curtain in its channel under load. We check the approval against the size of your opening, since a rating covers only the sizes tested.
- Who decides whether my building needs one?
- The building department decides, working from the code in force when the permit is pulled and from how the building is used and where it sits. We can help you phrase the question and bring the right details.
Thinking About Storm Protection for the Opening?
Opening width and height plus the present door are what we need to outline what a rated replacement involves.
