Garage Door Sensor Repair in Arcadia for Busy Doorways

When beam units or a sensing edge misbehave, the door refuses to close or reverses for nothing. We find the fault and restore reliable detection.

The Door's Way of Noticing Obstacles

A pair of small units mounted low on each side of the opening send a beam across the doorway. If something breaks it while the door is closing, the operator stops and reverses. Many commercial doors also carry a sensing edge on the bottom bar that reacts to contact. Both exist to protect people, vehicles and stock.

In working buildings these devices get knocked, coated in dust and chewed on by rodents. Forklift traffic and vibration push the beam units out of line. We clean, realign and test them, trace the wiring, and replace a unit or edge when it is genuinely failing.

Sensor Symptoms

  • Closes only while the button is held

The operator does not detect a clear path, so it will only run in constant-pressure mode. The beam is misaligned, blocked or broken.

  • Indicator lights dim, flash or dark

A steady glow on both units normally signals alignment. A flashing light, a dim one or none points to aim, power or a wire fault.

  • Reverses with nothing in the way

Dust on a lens, a sun-glare problem, a loose bracket or a worn edge can all cause false reversals, especially on dirty or shaded doorways.

How We Repair Them

  1. 1

    Wipe, tighten and aim

Lenses are wiped, brackets are made rigid and each unit is aimed at its partner across the opening, at the right height from the floor.

  2. 2

    Trace the wiring

We follow the wires to the operator, looking for pinched, cut or gnawed sections, loose terminals or corroded splices, and repair or replace them.

  3. 3

    Test the response

The beam is interrupted at several heights, the edge is pressed, and the door is closed on a test object to confirm it stops and reverses.

Sensor Questions

Can I wire around the sensors so the door will close again?
I would advise against it. The sensors guard people, animals and vehicles from a closing door, and disabling them removes the operator's reversing safeguard. The repair is usually quick, so it is worth waiting for it instead of working around the fault.
What is a sensing edge?
It is a flexible strip along the door's bottom bar that detects pressure and signals the operator to stop and reverse. It is common on commercial doors and rolling steel doors, where beam units alone are not enough.
Why do the sensors stop working in the afternoon?
Low sun shining straight into a lens can overwhelm the signal and make the door think the path is blocked. Shading the unit or swapping sides often cures it. Brackets that shift with heat can cause the same fault.

Door Refusing to Close Properly?

What the indicator lights show and how the door reacts tell us whether it is aim, wiring or a failed unit.
